Oprah Winfrey


One of the most known names and faces in the world. The Oprah Show is shown in over 150 countries. Oprah, an American television host, actress, producer, and philanthropist, best known for her self titled, multi-award winning show which has become the highest-rated program of its kind in history and is the richest African American of the 20th century, the greatest black philanthropist in American history, and was once the world's only black billionaire. She has also been the most influential woman in the world. Oprah is an example of how someone can make a change in the world. Born on January 29, 1954 and raised under difficult circumstances, Oprah gad an unruly and chaotic childhood, which caused her to become pregnant, her running away, and being in the middle of a separated family. However, Oprah's career started when she co-hosted a local radio show at the age of 19. From there, here career took off. Oprah's ambition and determination is what led her to being The Most Powerful Woman in Entertainment. Oprah's honesty and strong personality is what inspires the viewers around the world.

2011 is Oprah's farewell season. The Oprah Show will come to an end after it's 25th season. With this said, Oprah is moving on to bigger things, like starting her own channel. The OWN Network launched on January 1, 2011 and was debuted in approximately 80 million homes.

In 1993, Winfrey hosted a rare prime-time interview with Michael Jackson which became the fourth most watched event in American television history as well as the most watched interview ever. The audience included 36.5 million people.

Oprah has become an international symbol of female empowerment. Oprah has always been in the public eye and her level of success has increased dramatically. Continuing on the topic of Forbes Most Powerful Celebrity List, let's take a look at Oprah's statistics. She takes the 2nd place in the ranking, right behind her good friend Lady Gaga.
