Jackson Pollock

I went into the MoMA last weekend & went into the Pop Art section. Yes, I saw Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein + others, but it was Pollock's pieces that caught my attention. Before my visit to the MoMA, I have heard of Pollock, but have never seen his work. When I left MoMA, I left knowing I have found my favorite & most inspiring artist. Also, my main picture on my blog is a piece by Pollock. The Pollock pieces really seem to speak. They seem to have a sense of live, their own spiritual presence. This is what makes artwork so incredible. Although pieces were made months, years, decades or centuries ago, the piece is still there. The piece is still sharing its story, the same story it has shared since it was originally created. Each piece of artwork was created with a thought or vision in the artist's mind. To me, artists are storytellers. The artwork expresses those ideas and stories. Pollock's abstract and captivating pieces of art are more than just pleasant, interesting and visually appealing, it is a map. It is the spirit of Pollock's own artistic journey and the aura surrounding the pieces certainly justify these statements. I recommend visiting the MoMA and seeing his work, not just to for an inspiration but to be told a great story, one that has been told for centuries.
