Miu Miu

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9f/Miumiu_logo.png
Miu Miu is a high fashion brand formed in 1993 and is from Prada House. Miu Miu is headed by Miuccia Prada. The name of the collection comes from her nickname. Miu Miu is very colorful, fun, sexy and playful, shown through the brights and the patterns on the clothing and most clearly through the advertisements. Miu Miu has hired many celebrities as spokesmodels for the brand to enhance its image, including: Katie Holmes, Vanessa Paradis, Kirsten Dunst, Lindsay Lohan, and Maggie Gyllenhall. The current spokesmodel is 14 year old actress Hailee Steinfeld.

The bold styling of the makeup and the frizzy hair creates a fantastical, unique and somewhat, must I say obnoxious, look and feel. The fearless styling and spectacular use of colors and brights really do bring the clothes to life. Each collection of Miu Miu brings about a feeling of a glamourous fantasty, a false reality. The clothes and the models appear as if they are from another planet; They are from the world of fashion, brights, glamour and beauty. Miu Miu is, as fashionista's say, fabulous. Miuccia Prada's artistic vision and work in Miu Miu is genius. Italian Fashion all the way.

Also, what is so interesting about Miu Miu is the name. I'll be honest, what originally caused my attraction for Miu Miu (before I learned about Miuccia Prada and her designs) was the name. MIU MIU! How fun. Anyways, I find it so interesting that Miuccia Prada chose to name her collection after a life long nickname. That is like me calling my collection Bard, or Billard. Would it work? If Miuccia Prada was a new designer and was thrown into the fashion world, giving it her best shot to make a name out of herself, would she chose Miu Miu? Perhaps. However, I seriously doubt that she wouldn't. She could only chose a nickname (and have it work) because she is already established. The Prada House is one of the biggest in the world (and one the best). For example, Marc Jacobs is almost at the point where he would create a brand off of his nickname, but why would he? Partially why I think Miuccia Prada created Miu Miu was to create her own fashion brand, seperate from her families' brand. What I am asking you, the reader, and myself is, does time and establishment allow us to ease up on names? Starting out as a fashion designer is hard and the name really is part of it. Alexander McQueen. The name. The name is so catchy and elegant, but could he have called his brand Alex McQueen? Perhaps, but I doubt it would be as successful. Would Louis Vuitton be as successful if it was just Louis? The importance of the name isn't just relevant in the fashion world, but in all worlds. Let's take the world of music, for example. Would Lady Gaga be as interesting if used her real name, Stefani, as her stage name? Fergie? Would Stacy Ferguson be as sexy as Fergie? I strongly think not. This could all sound a bit superficial. We are told to never judge a book by its cover, which I do stand by, but for some reason, this is it. The reason could possibly because in the fashion world, the label is everything. You are what you wear. How elitist and superficial, I know, but it is true. To summarize what I am saying, naming her brand Miu Miu shows how powerful and established Miuccia Prada is to have named her collection off her nickname. This is one of the many reasons why I admire and deeply respect Miuccia Prada, her artistic vision and work, and Miu Miu. And yes, I guess I have a bit of respect for Lindsay Lohan for creating a beautiful and wonderfully arsty advertisement that represents Miu Miu very well.

2011 MuchMusic Video Awards

MuchMusic 2011 Awards
I'm sure most of you have probably not heard of the MuchMusic Awards until recently. (Unless your Canadian or you are a Little Monster or Belieber or music/ award show lover). The MuchMusic Awards are an annual music awards show that takes place in Toronto, Canada every June. This years' award show was hosted by Selena Gomez. She did a very good job.

Lady Gaga  hits the stage at the 2011 MuchMusic Video Awards on Sunday (June 19) at the MuchMusic HQ in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She literally stole the show. I guess that is incorrect because she was asked to perform. Okay, well, I think the best way to put it is: She made the show.
The 25-year-old singer performed “Edge of Glory” and “Born This Way” and also picked up some awards!
She opened the show with "Edge of Glory" and closed it with "Born This Way".

Gaga scored the International Video of the Year Award for “Judas” and also took home the fan choice Ur Fave International Video for “Born This Way.”
“Getting ready to perform on the MuchMusic Awards tomorrow. Thank you to amazing Canadian monsters for cheering us on today in rehearsal!”Gaga tweeted the day before.
Gaga is wearing Atelier Versace and Vintage Versace."

Lady Gaga showed up and took home the UR Fave International Video trophy for her “Born This Way” video, telling the audience, "I love you so much little monsters and Canada! This is the most important award to me because it's from you the fans." Good work Little Monsters.
Justin Bieber picked up the UR Fave Artist award. He said: "Thank you so much! I want to say that the first time I ever got an award was here at the MuchMusic Awards, so I want to say thank you to all my fans ... you guys are amazing, and I couldn't do this without you! I love you so much!"

Comments from users on Youtube:
  • "She will go down in the history as one of the best."
  • "I'm so sick of seeing people on these older videos saying "I MISS THE OLD GAGA." She hasn't changed. Her style has evolved, yes, as it must. If Gaga didn't change over the last three years, she'd become boring. Fame is complicated. The artist must evolve both musically and through their fashion. She hasn't changed. If you watch interviews, it's still the exact same person talking, just a different styling. The artist must be completely relevant and yet irrelevant at the same time.
  • "Clarence and her Grandfather are both looking down and smiling while she is putting a lot of smiles on peoples faces here on earth. Truly amazing."

Proenza Schouler

Proenza Schouler
is a modern luxury womenswear and accessories label, founded in 2002 and is based in New York. The brand was founded by designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. The name Proenza Schouler came from Hernandez and McCollough's mothers' maiden names. Hernandez and McCollough, both visionaries in my opinion, and like all artists, are story tellers. Their collections are more than just visually appealing fascinations, but express the intended ideas and tell stories, straight from Lazaro and McCollough. Returning back to the quick background information, Lazaro and McCollough met at Parson’s School of Design in New York City in 1998. The two, which became good friends, collaborated on their senior thesis collection, which was bought in its entirety by Barneys New York. McCollough and Hernandez worked with Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors respectively, then partnered on their graduation project. I have just recently, within the last 6 months been familiarized with the brand and because of this I feel I have unraveled a secret. The artistic representation present in the Proenza Schouler brand was, and still is, a new thing to me, and in a way was the world's best kept secret from me. Everyone in the world of art and fashion have been in the circle, and then there was me, wandering around on the outside looking for a way in. Of course it was my own wrong doing and possibly my own fault for not knowing the brand but when I discovered Proenza Schouler, I knew it would be a sort of revolution. Proenza Schouler (PS) is a fresh breeze on reality. It is a fantastical, exotic and yet concrete like resort. This is how I would describe Proenza Schouler in an overly dramatic way. Simply put, since learning about McCollough and Hernandez and the empire they have built, I consider them both, and Proenza Schouler as well, as inspirations to me and to my artistic creations.

"Proenza Schouler has collaborated with a number of celebrities, developing relationships with Kristen Stewart, Sarah Jessica Parker, Gwyneth Paltrow, Chloe Sevigny, Kate Bosworth, Kirsten Dunst, Julianne Moore and Charlize Theron, as well as designing Academy Awards dresses for Maggie Gyllenhall and Amy Adams. They have also done several collaborations with brands such as Target (2007,2011), Giuseppi Zanotti (Spring 2009), and J Brand Jeans (Fall/Winter 2010)."

Hernandez, Daphne Guinness and McCollough

"Proenza Schouler has gone on to achieve critical success since its inception, including the 2003 CFDA Perry Ellis Award for new talent, and the inaugural CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund award in 2004. In 2007, Proenza Schouler received the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year award (for which they were also nominated in 2006 and 2008) and Valentino Fashion Group took a 45% stake in Proenza Schouler. Following the launch of their first collection of shoes and handbags in 2008, they were awarded the 2009 CFDA Accessory Designer of the Year Award, and were nominated again in 2010.
Proenza Schouler is sold in over 100 of the most exclusive retail outlets worldwide, including Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Harvey Nichols, Colette, Joyce and Lane Crawford.
André Leon Talley, former American editor-at-large for Vogue magazine praised the designers in New York Magazine, commending them for their impeccable tailoring and expressed admiration in regards to the perfect construction of their clothes. At the outset, the two gained popularity due to their modern evaluation of bustiers and corsetry; they are also known for their menswear-inspired coats as well as their sleek and minimal silhouettes that frequently come in dark neutrals."
